2016 - 2017 Meetings:

Sprucewood Elementary School Community Council meets the second Monday of each month at 4:00 pm in the school media center. Meetings are open to the public.

School Community Council General Information

Sprucewood was allocated $33, 740 for the 2016-2017 school year. We carried over $961 for a total of $34,732 for our budget for the year.

As the parent of a Sprucewood Falcon, you are an integral part of our learning community.  We believe that parental involvement is very important to student academic progress and achievement.  Parents are the primary advocates for their children’s academic excellence.  The Sprucewood School Community Council is a working example of this ideal.  By working on the School Community Council, parents ensure the representation of various viewpoints and values from within the school community.

Who is on the School Community Council?
Parents make up the majority of School Community Council and are often the driving force.  Each school elects a school community council consisting of parents, teachers, and the principal. It is important that parents on the council understand the responsibilities of the council and are able to collaborate well with the other members of the council to bring about meaningful school improvement.

What is the purpose of the School Community Council?
The council makes decisions about the School LAND Trust Program.  LAND stands for Learning And Nurturing Development.  Your council or committee prepares a plan that identifies the school’s greatest academic need(s).  Plans are then submitted to Canyons School District and the State of Utah.  The plans are approved by local school boards for implementation the following school year.  Our community council then receives an annual dividend from the permanent State School Fund every July to implement Sprucewood’s approved plan during the next school year.  Each year Sprucewood receives an average of $32,000 from the LAND Trust, which is used to increase and improve learning opportunities for our students.

How do I get involved?
The Sprucewood Community Council consists of 10 members.  Elections for open council positions are held early in the first quarter of the school year.  If you would like to be considered for nomination, please contact a current member of the council via email. Thanks for your interest and involvement in our students’ education!
