Chris Carlson- Instructional Assistant

I’m the fifth child out of six. I love my parents and siblings fiercely. My husband comes from a large family as well. Fun little trivia fact, I’m the great aunt to over 120 nieces and nephews. Although we come from large families, we only have two children. One girl and one boy. They are the perfect mix of both of us.  I like to spend time with my family, travel, read, and work on projects in my free time.

I got my bachelors degree in Floral Design Management from Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho). I love flowers, especially wedding flowers. I’ve done weddings for over 23 years and owned my own business for 10 of those years.

I’m a right brained person, so any subject that let me use my creative side was my favorite. I can definitely tell you economics was my least favorite. I dropped that course like a hot potato.

I love traveling and seeing new places. I’ve had the opportunity to see 47 of the 50 states, and travel to over 17 different countries. So I guess my favorite spots to vacation are the ones I haven’t seen yet. As far as places I’d like to go back and spend more time, there are too many to name. But Bali, Greece, southern France, Bryce Canyon, Yellowstone, and family in California would be on it.

This is my sixth year as a Sprucewood employee.  I also oversee the Falcon Report and love it!

Tess Hortin - 504 Assistant

Tess is married to Ryan and they have two kiddos, both Sprucewood educated. Will is 14 and Emmy is 12.  For her undergraduate degree, Tess attended BYU.  She got her MSW from University of Utah.  Does she bleed blue or red?  In school, her favorite subject was Humanities because it married History and English.

In her free time, Tess likes to watch my kids play soccer, travel, read and exercise.  She does not have any pets.  She likes to vacation in Hawaii. Her family unplugs and spends all day hiking, swimming and relaxing. Tess can spend all day in flip flops and shorts, eating fish and enjoying the ocean.

Amanda Breinholt- Nutrition Worker

Amanda has been married for 19 year and has 3 children, Daxton 17, Connor 14 and Kinley 9.

I like to go on hikes with my family. I like to go to movies but haven’t since the pandemic started. I miss the movie theater!  I have a chihuahua puppy named Moki and a hamster named Tilly.

In high school I was in the class that taught the preschool. I loved that class!

We have had some fun family vacations. We went to Knott’s Berry Farm, Disneyland, Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon, Vernal. Really I like going anywhere as long as I’m with my family. It’s fun getting away and being together.

I love working at Sprucewood. We have great kids there and I love seeing them everyday!
