    • Meeting began at 4:02
  • Approve last month’s meeting minutes
    • First to motion approval: Melissa White
    • Second to motion approval: Amy Wall
  • Review current year’s LAND Trust plan and review if on course
    • Teachers are implementing the action steps as written
    • All budgets are being used as proposed and we are on course for spending
  • Discussion about elementary-level Chromebook filtering and access points.
    • SCC members received the powerpoint presentation from Canyons School District prior to this meeting and discussed the following identified options today:
      • No. 1: No change. Filtering practices at the elementary level should remain the same. If parents want more restrictive settings, they can request the service for
      • their own children.
      • No. 2: All elementary-level Chromebooks will be put on the “highly restrictive” level of filtering. This will be CSD’s standard.
      • No. 3: All elementary-level Chromebooks will be put on the “highly restrictive” level of filtering—but parents can opt into less-restrictive settings for their own children. It’s the reverse of current practice.

Item for Vote: Which option does our committee recommend?

1- I think if you go too hard on it,  filters can be problematic. Don’t want individual parents choosing what’s appropriate for all students.

Alicia Lemus

absent

Noel Markle

1- Agree with Eli’s ideas and also teaching students to be responsible and accountable users

Amy Wall

3- No issues at Sprucewood but all are different. Safer searches. Important for parents to have a say in student filtering

Melissa White

1- Proactive strategies are sufficient- digital citizenship, and responsible use

Cathleen Schino

Opting out of vote to meet SCC bylaws for quorum

Vote Summary: Majority voted for option 1

Comments: Should CSD eliminate the ability for elementary students to access their student accounts during a defined set of hours after the school day is over and on the weekends?

Too many exceptions to have a blanket policy without more detail. Rather leave up to families to monitor school work at home.

For the younger grades, there are no requirements for work after school so there is no reason to be online. Maybe a 7-5 time limit.

Amy Wall

If the filter is set to the most restrictive, we need to let them get homework done. The chromebook should be set for what they need to do. It’s complicated. Need access for some of the stuff they are asked to do.

Melissa White

I would like to see ideally that there are some restrictions to account access but a window for after school usage. Limitations for even k-2 students. Worry that if appropriate amount of homework may increase.

Cathleen Schino

Opting out of vote to meet SCC bylaws for quorum

Discussion Summary:  Mixed feelings about this option.  The SCC agrees that knowing more details would help make a more informed decision.
