Sprucewood Elementary is located in south Sandy City in a residential suburban area comprised primarily of middle-income homes. The school enjoys positive home/school relationships with teachers and parents combining efforts to see that individual student needs are met. Teachers are working to give each student opportunities to succeed, to learn the organized curriculum, and to gain a sense of self-worth.


  • Sprucewood serves 501 students from K-5.
  • The school day begins at 8:50 a.m. and ends at 3:25 p.m. except on Early Out Fridays when school is dismissed at 1:45 pm to allow teachers time for planning.
  • The curriculum meets or exceeds all state and District guidelines.

  • The Sprucewood faculty is comprised of state certificated teachers with diversified backgrounds and experiences. Teachers are involved in cooperative teaching at each grade level. Several have master's degrees and all have hours of training beyond the bachelor's degree required for state certification.
  • Resource teachers, a speech therapist, and school pyschologist are on staff to help diagnose students with learning problems and tailor programs to meet their specific learning needs.
  • Sprucewood students are expected to meet attendance, dress and discipline standards. Students should be in school every day unless they are ill. They should dress in clean, appropriate clothing and show respect and responsibility in their behavior.
  • Hot lunches are provided daily in the school cafeteria. The student price is $1.75 per lunch. Milk may be purchased for 50 cents per carton. Free and reduced price lunches are available to qualifying students.
  • The school has an active PTA which regularly sponsors school activities to enrich the learning program. A School Community Council meets monthly to provide input from the community on important school issues.
  • School volunteers are valued at Sprucewood and log thousands of hours of service to the school each year.
  • Visitors are welcome and encouraged to check in at the office before visiting classrooms.
  • Our teachers actively participate in many hours of in-service training each year to improve and enrich classroom teaching.
  • At Sprucewood, technology supports instruction through the use of a 30-station creativity lab, mobile labs, keyboarding instruction, and on-going teacher training.
  • Our staff is working to make Sprucewood a warm, friendly, caring place for learning. We believe all students can learn, grow and succeed!!!
  • We implement PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) to help students learn from their mistakes, manage behavior and be SAFE, RESPECTFUL and RESPONSIBLE.
